Sanskrit Scholarship 2022 – The Sanskrit scholarship is a scholarship offered by the Indian government through Rashtriya Sanskrit Sansthan (Deemed University), now called Central Sanskrit University which intends to facilitate and multiply the speaking of Sanskrit language and literature in the country. A monthly amount of up to INR 2,500 is awarded to the students by the Sanskrit Scholarship. In addition to the INR 2,500 given to those students who are in class 9 to 12, this same amount will also be given to graduates, post-graduates and PhD students who are studying Sanskrit as a main or optional subject. The main objective of the scholarship scheme is to promote Sanskrit language and literature among Indian students. The application for the Sanskrit scholarship is generally declared openly in the month of July or August annually and this is done through publicity in popular newspaper across the country. The academic year 2020-2021 however, the scholarship was active during the months of December all through the month of April. The dateline for the submission of application for the Sanskrit scholarship 2020-2021 was extended till 25th April 2021.
Sanskrit Scholarship – Rewards
The selection process for the Sanskrit scholarship is done based on merit. Successful candidates become eligible to get financial benefits under the Sanskrit scholarship scheme. Award Details of Sanskrit Scholarship
- Students of class 9 and 10: INR 500 per month for a period of 10 months
- Students of class 11 and 12: INR 600 per month for a period of 10 months
- Shastri/Graduation/B.A./B.A.(Hons.) or an equivalent course of three years duration: INR 800 per month for a period of 10 months
- Acharya/M.A. in Sanskrit/Pali/Prakrit or equivalent postgraduation degree: INR 1,000 per month for a duration of 10 months
- Vidyavaridhi/PhD or equivalent: INR 2,500 per month for 12 months along with a contingency grant of INR 5,000 per annum for two years
Sanskrit Scholarship – Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for the Sanskrit scholarship, the aspirant must meet certain eligibility requirements. One of the main requirements for the Sanskrit scholarship program is that the aspirant must be a regular student pursuit Sanskrit.Pali/Prakrit as their main or optional subject from any recognized Sanskrit Pargashala/Sanskrit Mahavudyalaya/Sanskrit Vishwavidyalaya in the traditional stream or school/college/university in the modern Stream. Below is a highlighted complete details about the eligibility requirements of the Sanskrit scholarship that a candidate is required to fill in order to stand a chance to be a beneficiary of this scholarship program.
- Students of Class 9 and 10 or Purva-Madhyama or equivalent studying Sanskrit/Pali/Prakrit as a paper of at least 100 marks
- The applicants must have passed their last exam.
- The candidates must have scored at least 60% marks overall and 60% in Sanskrit/Pali/Prakrit.
- The applicants must have opted for Sanskrit/Pali/Prakrit in the current class.
- Students of Class 11 and 12 or Uttar-Madhyama/Prakshastri or equivalent studying Sanskrit/Pali/Prakrit as a paper of at least 100 marks
- The applicants must have passed the last exam.
- The candidates must have scored at least 60% marks overall and 60% in Sanskrit/Pali/Prakrit.
- The candidates must have opted for Sanskrit/Pali/Prakrit in the current class.
- Students pursuing graduation/Shastri or equivalent with Sanskrit/Pali/Prakrit as a subject of at least 100 marks
- The applicants must have passed class 12/Intermediate with at least 60% overall marks and 60% in Sanskrit/Pali/Prakrit.
- For B.A. 1st/2nd/3rd year, the candidates must have passed the previous 2 semesters or 1 year and have opted for Sanskrit/Pali/Prakrit in the current class.
- Students pursuing MA in Sanskrit/Pali/Prakrit or Acharya or equivalent postgraduate degree
- The applicants must have passed graduation with at least 60% marks and 60% in Sanskrit/Pali/Prakrit.
- The 2nd-year PG students must have passed the previous 2 semesters or 1 year with 60% marks and have opted for Sanskrit/Pali/Prakrit in the current class.
- Students studying Vidyavaridhi or PhD in Sanskrit/Pali/Prakrit
- The applicants must have passed PG or Acharya with at least 60% overall marks.
- For students who want to pursue their postgraduate degree at Phd level must have registered for the Phd course before the Sanskrit scholarship is announced.
Furthermore, candidates who belong to reserved categories are eligible for marks relaxation. The minimum percentage of marks for OBC students is 55%, 50% for SC/ST and PH candidates.

Sanskrit Scholarship 2022 – Application Process
Rashtriya Sanskrit Sansthan allows applicants to apply online for the Sanskrit scholarship through their official portal. Given below are the steps that are required to apply for the scholarship.
- First, the candidates need to visit the home page of Rashtriya Sanskrit Sansthan and click on ‘Schemes’ under which ‘Scholarship Scheme’ is listed. The candidates need to click on it to visit the scholarship page.
- Now, the candidates need to click on ‘On-line applications’ mentioned as the second point. The applicants are taken to a new page where guidelines, registration of institutes, etc. are given.
- The applicants need to read the instruction carefully and make sure that their institutes are registered for the scholarship scheme.
- After making sure that the details of the registered institutions have been activated by Rashtriya Sanskrit Sansthan, the applicants can apply for this scholarship by filling in all the required details.
- Finally, the applicants must upload the scanned copies of all the necessary documents and submit their application form.
